WESTERN NIGHT SEPTEMBER 13, 2016

A number of new students attended the recent Western Night and might be joining lessons on Thursday. We had fun with an intro to square dancing, Peanuts members doing a demo for the new people, and some country line dances mixed in.

FIRST NIGHT OF LESSONS AT PEANUT SQUARES - AUGUST 8, 2016

Thursday night was the first square dance lesson at Southminster Church, taught by Scott Brown and Lisa Minton, subbing for Shawn Brown. We learned do-si-do, circle right and left, promenade, left allemande, grand right and left, california twirl, and more!

Our first dance in September - fun dancing this past Tuesday with caller Scott Brown - we had a patriotic theme for Labor Day. We dance every Tuesday now till next summer!

Thur 9/8/16 - Next is our FREE initial Square Dancing Lesson for beginners this Thursday, Sept. 8th, at 7:30 PM, at Southminster Church, 799 Washington Rd in Mt. Lebanon  15228 (a 10 minute walk from the Mt. Lebanon Red Line T Station).  We dance in the lower hall using the side entrance across from the Mt. Lebanon Library entrance.  Light refreshments and plenty of water are included.  Lessons are taught by National Square Dance Caller Shawn Brown from here in Pittsburgh.  Casual attire and comfortable shoes.  No partner required, and no commitment to continue with lessons.  Parking is across Castle Shannon Blvd and up the hill, on the other side of the Southminster House and across the driveway from the Library lot.  When there is an evening school event, additional parking is available along Washington Rd and Castle Shannon Blvd along the street and in school and municipal lots and garages.  Parking meters are not monitored in the evenings.

Tue 9/13/16 - Our final Open House "Western Night" dance for beginners in 2016 is on Tuesday, Sept. 13th, at 7:30 PM, at Covenant Community Church, 1630 Greentree Rd in Scott Twp. 15220.  We dance in the lower hall using the rear entrance on the side of the Church located around the playground.  Cost is $4 per person ($2 for under age 18) and includes light refreshments and plenty of water.  Casual attire and comfortable shoes.  No partner required.

Thur 9/15/16 - Finally, our Fall 2016 Beginner Square Dancing Lessons on 12 Thursday evenings thru 1/5/17 (excl. holiday weeks and 2 weeks that the Church hall is not available) starts on Thursday, Sept. 15th, at 7:30 PM, at Southminster Church, 799 Washington Rd in Mt. Lebanon  15228 (a 10 minute walk from the Mt. Lebanon Red Line T Station).  We dance in the lower hall using the side entrance across from the Mt. Lebanon Library entrance.  All lessons are taught by National Square Dance Caller Shawn Brown from here in Pittsburgh.  Cost is $5 per person per week ($2.50 / week for students under age 18) and includes light refreshments and plenty of water.  Casual attire and comfortable shoes.  No partner required.  The goal of the lessons is to be able to dance at the Basic/Mainstream level of western square dancing, allowing dancers to dance at weekly Peanut Squares dances, dances at other area clubs, and Mainstream dances at clubs around the world.  The most fun, and exercise, you'll have for just $5 per week.  And a work-out for both the body and the mind.

All parking is free in the Church lots.
